Who We Are

Rural Water Development Funds Liberia (RWDF-Liberia) is a development-focused organization established to mobilize, manage and facilitate financing for sustainable water supply, sanitation, hygiene and water-resource infrastructure in Liberia.

The organization focuses particularly on rural and underserved communities where inadequate access to safe and reliable water continues to constrain public health, education, agricultural productivity, economic development and community resilience.

RWDF-Liberia seeks to bridge the gap between communities requiring water infrastructure and the financial, technical and institutional resources necessary to deliver sustainable solutions.

The organization works to mobilize resources from development partners, philanthropic foundations, charitable institutions, corporations, private donors, international organizations and other legitimate financing sources for the development of water and sanitation infrastructure.

RWDF-Liberia’s approach goes beyond the construction of water facilities. Projects are designed around long-term sustainability, community ownership, environmental protection, appropriate technology, effective operation and maintenance, gender and social inclusion, and measurable development impact.

CORE PURPOSE

The principal purpose of RWDF-Liberia is to serve as a platform for mobilizing and directing development financing toward sustainable water infrastructure and WASH interventions.

The organization seeks to connect funding partners, government institutions, local authorities, communities, consultants, contractors, suppliers and civil society organizations within a transparent framework for project identification, financing, implementation and monitoring.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

RWDF-Liberia’s principal objectives are to:

1. Mobilize grants, donations and other development financing for rural water and sanitation projects.
2. Support the construction and rehabilitation of sustainable community water-supply infrastructure.
3. Improve access to safe drinking water in rural and underserved communities.
4. Develop boreholes, wells, reservoirs, storage tanks, water-treatment facilities and distribution networks.
5. Support solar-powered and other energy-efficient water-pumping systems.
6. Promote improved sanitation and hygiene practices.
7. Strengthen community participation in water-resource management.
8. Support climate-resilient water infrastructure and watershed protection.
9. Build the technical and managerial capacity of local water-management structures.
10. Facilitate partnerships between communities, government agencies, donors, NGOs and private-sector organizations.
11. Promote transparent and accountable management of funds dedicated to water development.
12. Support studies, designs and investment planning for major rural water projects.
